You have posed some difficult questions to answer in a concise way.
We are still playing “awesome reggae music” if ever we were.
We are more of a dub reggae band than ever before as well, with a full time dub engineer on stage and a matured vision of the style.
We don’t play anything that is glitchy to use the term in it’s correct sense. Though there is an electronic/dance element to our music that has been creeping in since 2008 or so. This development reflects a natural process of evolution that occurs with many groups of musicians that are living in and interacting with the world in a time of immense change.
We are still the same band and are healthily evolving but don’t see any reason to change our name, our goals and vision are consistent with our goals and vision years ago. Playing music that inspires us truthfully, and hopefully inspiring some kind of emotion towards goodness in people.
We can’t go back in time. We are writing new songs and even if some fans prefer a previous era of songs this wouldn’t be a driving force for us to stop our expression of current musical inspiration.
We have not noticed a new fan base that reflects any change on our part. We are not following any trends in particular though we are of course influenced by things we hear, which is good and natural, how do you think any of us started playing dub reggae music? We heard it and were influenced to play it. Dub reggae was experiencing a wave of popularity around the late 90’s and early 2000’s and I am sure this was a big influence on DubC’s initial songs and desire to play Dub Reggae music.
We all keep our ears, hearts and minds open to reality as much as possible.
Hope to see you at a show sometime soon!
We don’t have a date to give you yet.
I don’t know where Sol is at this very moment. But I could guess he is probably lighting up the world with his amazing contagious smile where ever he is this very second… or he is asleep still.
He lives in Athens still but no longer plays music with DubConscious.
He is playing great music with Lloyd’s Rocksteady Revue and other acts.
He and I have loosely discussed plans to get together and play some Dub reggae music again with a new incarnation of my old band KingRat.
We are all still friends and we love Solomon very much. Our musical paths simply parted ways.
I play bass full time now versus only on the Afrobeat tunes and do the dub engineering with my feet while on stage.
Peace and Dub,
Matty G
I have an old almost unworn brown one I would gladly give you… We could dye it green. I’ll send you an email soon.
Peace and Dub,
Matty G
